Sunday mornings are the worst for political junkies, for lack of better term, because the news articles repeat, and the stories stay the same until Monday when the mainstream media gets back to work. However, in the blogosphere, on internet forums, chat rooms, even
twitter, these things never stop. So I eagerly get up, get the coffee going, and jump on the 'Nets to see what's shaking.
I read this quote about Obama and it got me thinking:
"If he gets elected his brains will very likely decorate the back of whatever stage he's standing on at the time." a guy on a message board.
Is this just wishful thinking from another McCainiac, or is there more to it? Does it have to do with race? Before I go into it, I will state that, I personally believe it to be more wishful thinking than anything else. But yes, it does have to do with race.
These are the same people shouting "
kill him" at McCain events, or saying they are "
scared of Obama" on television. I wouldn't call it "racism," but it definitely has to do with race. As
McCain even stated, there is no reason to be afraid of Barack Obama. But this is how far his campaign has gone, playing on the fear, the fear of Obama, the fear of a racially mixed man in the White House.
Sure, there are going to be threats against
Barack Obama, and especially if he wins the election. But what I see coming out of people's mouths online comes is the result of something deeper within the person. Something they were raised with, something they've felt since they were young. I was raised in the Deep South, I heard the N-word more than anyone growing up, not from my mother, but countless others, and countless times growing up.
As someone who grew up in an interracial family, I can say, these things are more visible to me. I look at what people are saying, and its fear bubbling to the surface, nothing else. The same fear of the Civil Rights years, and same fear being used to divide this country. And all they can do is go online and spread more fear. They have no answers, they have nothing honorable to say. Just more and more "Obama will be shot" thoughts. Listen, we can do without that. If you are not intelligent enough to look past the rhetoric and see that America is finally ready for a change, and all you can do is throw out wishful thoughts about threats against Obama, maybe you need another hobby?
The reason people say these things, is fear. But what I do not understand is, to me, the idea of Barack Obama getting shot, is much scarier to me than having a racially mixed person as president! Is America so unsafe, so hostile, so trigger happy, that even as we get ready to elect our next president, the thoughts are mostly, "will he be shot?" Why aren't we celebrating the fact we have such a great country, where elections like this, are even possible? No, that would be too humane for these monsters. These cowards, these hate mongers.
These people go online and run their mouth about
death threats, but you never see them say anything honorable about race or America. You never see them say that an Obama assassination would be bad, do you? No, and that's why I continue to believe it is mostly wishful thinking.
The idea that America still has wackos running around claiming "God and Guns First," and that one of these are the exact type to actually try to hurt Obama, should scare anyone. This, my friends, is terrorism. Anyone who goes around preaching about how "if Obama gets elected, he's gonna be shot" is the terrorist, they are using terror and fear to forward their own agenda, or candidate.
I'm not afraid of a racially mixed man in the White House, but I am afraid America is still so divided, still has a large portion of racists, terrorists, and more. And the fact that they keep a portion of this great nation under siege, that even if the People did elect Obama, some psycho could still come along and take our President from us. That is scary. That is fear.
