Only a racist would put this on Yale Application
Professor Gates resentment towards whites has been long established. He has resented all whites with authority since his college days.
I will keep this entry short and sweet.
Only a racist would use words like this on his/her application to Yale.
Quotes like that on an application lead one to believe he must use some way more racist tones when talking behind closed doors. And it is no doubt that this man holds resentment to any white person who holds any authority over him. He was confronted by a white officer and rose up trying to pull rank on the officer who was simply trying to do his job.
There is no way this man is not a race baiting racist, he has been that way since his youth. Only a racist would come at "whitey" on his application to Yale University!

"As always, whitey now sits in judgment of me, preparing to cast my fate. It is your decision either to let me blow with the wind as a nonentity or to encourage the development of self. Allow me to prove myself."Quoted from this article" A scholar in the fray

If his using the word whitey, in a essay, 40 years ago, is all you have on him, maybe let it go....
While I tend to agree with you on that, if Barack Obama had made the same statement it would have cost him the election. If the white cop Crowley had called blacks the N word in the past it would be in the news too! So while I understand this is perhaps from the past, it does not change the fact he has harbored ill feelings towards white people with authority over him. If you cannot use one's words against them, you have nothing...
